Community Colleges Achieve Goals

Story by WBGZ Radio

Thousands of people – an estimated 69,000 – are expected to get a degree or certificate from a community college in Illinois this year.  Doug Whitley with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce says they're depending on the community colleges to put people in high paying jobs and help chip away at the state’s unemployment rate.

Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon would like to see at least 60-percent of the adults in Illinois to have a degree within the next ten years.  Complete College America estimates that 67-percent of the jobs in the state will require a college degree or certificate by the year 2020.
