The man whose body was found following a fire at a Glen Carbon home on Thursday has been identified as 37-year-old Justin L. Campbell. Following an autopsy this (Friday) morning, it has been determined he died of a gunshot wound to the head.
The wound was a through-and-through, and no bullet was recovered either during the autopsy or at the scene, so it will not be possible to determine if he was killed with the gun recovered from 32-year-old Cristy L. Campbell's submerged vehicle. Campbell's body was pulled from Silver Lake in Highland on Thursday. Her cause of death has been determined to be environmental exposure and drowning. Six children escaped the fire and were uninjured. An infant was pulled from the sinking vehicle and revived by a Highland EMS Paramedic and is expected to recover.
A collection of personal items like clothing and shoes is being held for the surviving children later today from 6-8pm at Edwardsville High School. Donations may be dropped off at the Tiger Country Building behind the school and checks may be made to Little Tigers Football.
