Donations have far exceeded expectations for seven children orphaned following the tragic events of Thursday morning in Glen Carbon. Their father, Justin Campbell, was left in their home on Dogwood Lane with a bullet wound to the head. The home burned to the ground causing six of the children to rush to safety. The seventh, an infant, escaped death when the children's mother Cristy Campbell submerged her car in Silver Lake in Highland.
Clothing, gift cards and cash donations have poured in for the seven children aged three months to 14 years.
Outside of the Glen Carbon Wal-Mart, multiple boots were filled with cash and gift card donations for the newly-orphaned children. Inside the store, ten shopping carts of donations were collected on Saturday, with more expected to come in today.
On Friday, the Little Tigers Football Program held a collection that yielded stacked boxes of items and monetary donations.
A gofundme page for the seven orphans had received over $5,000 of its $10,000 donations target by Saturday evening.
