The main branch of Hayner Public Library in Downtown Alton is getting a new roof. The head of the library district says there have been multiple incidences of water damage and the replacement could not be put off any longer.

She says the roofing materials were placed on top of their building on Tuesday, with work on the flat asphalt roof to run at least through the end of the week. The current roof is at least 30-years-old according to Duvernoy.
