I-Cash Event Coming to Alton

Story by WBGZ Radio

You may have money or property coming to you that is currently being held by the state. The Illinois treasurer's office runs the I-Cash program, which gets money and property back into the hands of those rightful owners, and an event in Alton Friday will help you find out if you're owed anything.

Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs says it’s no joke – some people think his office is trying to scam them by calling to inform them they’re owed money from unclaimed property. He says when his office calls people to tell them the state owes them money from unclaimed property, they get hung up on.

Frerichs said unclaimed property owed to citizens, businesses or social services is better utilized in their bank accounts rather than sitting in a state account. Friday's event will be held at the Shop 'N Save in Alton from 9am-11am. You can check the unclaimed property database by searching your name online at http://icash.illinoistreasurer.gov
