Flower Shop Target of Drug Bust

Story by WBGZ Radio

The owner of an Alton flower shop is facing drug charges again.  61 year old Jeffrey Izard of the 700 block of East Fifth Street has been charged with possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana.  Police were tipped off by another department when they intercepted 44 pounds of the drug allegedly headed to Kinzel Flower Shop in Alton.

According to the charges, Alton Police with the help of the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southern Illinois conducted an undercover delivery of the marijuana earlier this month when they say Izard took possession of it and paid the police informant $50,000.  Police then made the arrest and reportedly found the marijuana, more than $121-thousand in cash and drug packing materials in the shop.  Alton Police had been tipped off by a police department in Kansas that found the duffle bags full of marijuana during a traffic stop.  They contacted Alton Police after learning the drugs were to be delivered to the flower shop.  Izard was charged and arrested last week, but has posted bond.  Izard was charged in 2008 with manufacture or delivery of marijuana connected to an upstairs apartment of the shop and at a home across the street.  After several delays, he pleaded guilty to the charge in 2014 and was sentenced to probation and fines.
