Master Naturalist Sign Up Underway

Story by WBGZ Radio

Area lawn and garden enthusiasts can get intensive horticulture training through University of Illinois Extension's Master Gardener program, but if your area of interest is more of the preservationist or conservationist, the Master Naturalist program may be more appropriate. The training program consists of weekly sessions that run from August through October, but registration is going on now.

Participants get in-depth instruction on a variety of topics. U of I Extension Program Coordinator Sarah Ruth tells The Big Z the Master Naturalists and Master Gardeners are similar courses, but there are some notable differences.

It costs $250 for the naturalist course. The training will be held on Wednesdays with a couple of Saturdays thrown in as well. For more details, call 618-939-3434 or 618-344-4230, or follow the link: http://web.extension.illinos.edu/mms
