Bicyclist, Pedestrian Hit in Separate Incidents

Story by WBGZ Radio

A student from Alton Middle School was injured Thursday morning after police say he ran out in front of a moving vehicle and was struck near the school. Shortly after that incident, a man on a bicycle was hit by a vehicle on Washington near the Homer Adams Parkway, but was not seriously injured.

The student was hit around 7:45am as he was trying to cross College Avenue. Alton Police and Fire responded and the boy was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital suffering a broken arm and a concussion. The driver was not injured, and was not ticketed as police say the woman was not speeding and the child ran out into traffic without looking. Paramedics then responded a short time later to the incident involving the bicyclist near the Parkway. The man was treated for minor injuries at the scene but was not taken to the hospital. Police have not released additional details on if any charges would be filed in that case.
