City Approves Killion Committee

Story by WBGZ Radio

An amended resolution has been approved in Alton to create a committee to improve the upkeep, restoration, renovation, and maintenance of the James Killion Park at Salu. Originally planned to seat between 9 and 11 members, the new plan reduces that number to between 5 and 7.

4th Ward Alderwoman Tammy Smith tells The Big Z the mayor will be tasked with appointing the committee.

The committee would be set up similar to other committees in Alton that address issues and upkeep at places like the Lucy Haskell Playhouse and the Oriental Garden at Gordon Moore Park. It is a response to the conversations had after the city took down the basketball rims in August over what the mayor called "excessive littering." Mayor Brant Walker says he is already in conversations with some potential members.
