McCann Will Not Run For Reelection

Story by WBGZ Radio

Republican State Senator Sam McCann of Plainview has announced that he will not seek another term in the Illinois Senate. McCann, who has been publicly critical of Governor Bruce Rauner and his own party, said he would finish out his term for the 50th District which expires in January 2019.

McCann announced Monday he would not seek another term after winning a narrow victory in the last primary election against a Republican opponent backed by Governor Rauner. McCann believes the Republican Party of Illinois has lost its way under the governor and no longer looks out for the people of Illinois. McCann sited what he called "liberal standards" that Rauner has supported like taxpayer funded abortion, sanctuary state ideals, and transgender rights. McCann was to have faced a Republican opponent in the primary, 33 year old Steve McClure, a former assistant state’s attorney from Springfield.
