Godfrey Holding Steady on Tax Levy

Story by WBGZ Radio

The Godfrey Village Board has approved the 2017 tax levy and it's roughly the same as last year. Following years of decreases, the levy will remain mostly unchanged from last year after continued debate over whether it was time to hold it steady or possibly increase the levy slightly in order to fund more village projects. The board voted to hold it steady again last night.

The approved levy for 2017 will be $476,900. This means for the Godfrey portion of your Madison County tax bill, residents will see little change and possibly a slight decrease from the village depending on assessments. Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick has been opposed to any increase since he took office:

The vote was 4-1 in favor of holding steady with Trustee Nathan Schrumpf voting no, and Karen McAtee absent.
