Students Return to Alton's Mark Twain School

Story by WBGZ Radio

After $3-million in renovations, Alton's Mark Twain School is home to about 70 students and 25-30 staff members. Those students are of varying age, from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Six high school-aged students are being brought back into the district after having spent time out of district for various reasons.

And Superintendent Mark Cappel tells The Big Z that will provide a cost-savings to the district.

The Motivational Achievement Center has also been moved from its former location in Upper Alton at the corner of Amelia Street and Washington Avenue. The Motivational Achievement Center incorporates developmental therapy and natural consequences for interventions. It gives students a more structured learning environment than they may get in a traditional setting, with the goal of transitioning back to a less restrictive program.
