With temperatures in the mid 90's on Saturday, event organizers were worried attendance may be down, but Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst says the 175th Anniversary celebration was a well attended and enjoyable event. The opening ceremonies at 4pm were in the heat of the day, but Hoechst says they got a break not long after that.
The entertainment at the Amphitheater included presentations of Alton’s rich history, a wide variety of musical acts and a fireworks show at dusk. While that was the marquee event of the summer, Hoechst says there will be more events throughout the remainder of the year to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Alton's charter.
