Special Hearing Today On Abuse and Neglect of Disabled

The House Health Services Committee will meet in Chicago this afternoon to hear testimony regarding the abuse and neglect of people with disabilities and at least one representative from the Riverbend will be in attendance.

State Representative Dwight Kay of Glen Carbon, who sponsored a measure that will require the Department of Health Services its inspector general's office to investigate every case in which neglect or abuse has been reported. He says that it is imperative that organizations responsible for the well being of citizens do their jobs in the state of Illinois.

Earlier this month Gov. Pat Quinn issued an executive order that made immediate changes to the Illinois Department of Human Services and its inspector generals office. The organization has reportedly failed to investigate 53 deaths resulting from the neglect or abuse of a disabled person.
