District Breakfast Welcomes Staff

Story by WBGZ Radio

The annual Alton School District Employee First Day Breakfast took place Thursday at Lewis and Clark Community College, as hundreds of teachers and staff prepare for the first day of school on Monday.   The breakfast is provided by the college, and donations from Liberty Bank and WRB Refining Wood River Refinery.  Teachers then held meetings that continue today.

Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells welcomed those in attendance and introduced the theme of "Inspire Greatness," thanking staff for their hard work and dedication to students over the years and challenging them to go further.  He paid tribute to longtime district educator James Bailey, Senior, who recently passed away at the age of 97.  Liberty Bank awarded two grants totalling $1,100 to Greg Adams and Mimi Evans of Gilson Brown Elementary, and Lynne Burns of Eunice Smith Elementary.  The refining company, the Alton Education Foundation and the school district provided funding for 30 notebook computers for use in a physics class at Alton High School.
