Topinka Recognizes Local Boy Scout

Story by WBGZ Radio

A local boy scout has been called a hero by a state leader. State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka recognized Bethalto's Steven Davis on Friday as part of her office's "Scout Day" at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Davis, who is part of Bethalto Troop #777, performed CPR on his 16 month old niece, Ava, earlier this year after she began choking on her own phlegm. He remained calm and turned her on her back and administered CPR until her airways cleared and she resumed breathing on her own.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest values-based youth development organizations. There are 2.7 million boy scouts in America.
