Edwardsville Teachers Strike Averted

Story by WBGZ Radio

A teachers strike has apparently been averted in Edwardsville.  The Edwardsville Education Association voted overwhelmingly in favor of the district's latest contract offer last night.  Terms of the new contract weren't released, and the school board must still officially approve the deal.  The district and the teachers union issued a statement earlier on Tuesday indicating an agreement had been reached and the union vote confirmed the deal last night.

The school board will meet on Monday to vote on the contract.  The union had filed an intent to strike notice earlier this month, and could have started walking the picket lines August 23.  Classes began in Edwardsville last Wednesday.
