Wood River Police continue to investigate a fatal stabbing in the 100 block of South Ninth Street Friday morning. That is close to the Madison Avenue intersection. Charged with first degree murder is 23-year-old Justin M. Thompson (pictured). Police say he stabbed his father to death during an argument.
67-year-old Glen W. Thompson shared the apartment with his son. He was found dead on the porch, while Justin Thompson was located in a 2nd floor apartment and taken to Alton Memorial Hospital for treatment. Investigators believe the son stabbed his father with a kitchen knife. The penalty for murder is 20-60 years in prison, and if convicted, Thompson would have to serve 100% of his sentence. Investigators also believe the suspect will undergo a mental health evaluation to determine if he is fit to stand trial. Once he has been treated for his injuries he will be taken into custody and held without bond.
