The Godfrey Village Board is considering whether to reconsider its position on video gambling. At its last meeting, the board took no action on adjusting its stance, thereby allowing certain establishments to move forward in the application process. Another impassioned plea by a Godfrey resident combined with numerous citizens in the crowd in support of the opposition apparently has brought the board to the point that it will discuss it further at the November 5 meeting.
Trustee Mike Stumpf made a motion at the September 19 meeting to put the question to the voters in the spring. That motion was defeated, and that is the source of Stumpf's current view on the issue.
The possibilities would be the aforementioned petition effort, or a vote by trustees to place it on the ballot, which would then require a series of public hearings before the spring election in April. No action could be taken last night, as the issue was not on the agenda.
