Next Step for Riverview Park Plan

Story by WBGZ Radio

Representatives of the City of Alton will be traveling to Springfield Tuesday morning to pitch the Riverview Park plan that could bring another quarter-million dollars to the city for the project.  The money would be courtesy of an OSLAD Grant.  The plan is to improve the gazebo, area lighting and sidewalk connectivity, and be done with the whole project by 2014- the 100 year anniversary of the park.

Even if the city does not get this grant, Alton Park & Recreation Deputy Executive Director Rhonda Lewis says the project will go on, but on a lesser scale.

Lewis comments

She says she is feeling pretty good at this point, as the city has applied for several OSLAD Grants in the past, and has been approved for all of them.  No work has begun on the park yet, as once that happens, it is not reimbursable through the grant process.
