Congresswoman Talks About Football, Women in Combat

Story by WBGZ Radio
A newly elected Western Illinois Congresswoman doesn't regret letting her three sons play football.   During this Super Bowl week, President Obama said if he had a son, he would have to think long and hard before letting him play football because of the risk of concussions. U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline, pictured) says that's something each family has to consider, but she doesn't second guess her decision to let her kids play football.

Obama's comments were made in The New Republic. Bustos was in Aledo this week honoring Mercer County High School's state championship in football last fall.  Meanwhile Bustos agrees with outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, women should be able to serve combat roles in the military.  Bustos is also on record supporting concealed carry for Illinois. Her husband is the under-sheriff for Rock Island County. She says the Illinois Sheriff's Association supports concealed carry and that's good enough for her.
