Illinois is expanding background checks to include all gun purchases. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a measure into law Sunday covering all firearms purchases in Illinois. He says this law will close a loophole that had exempted gun sales between private parties. The new law forces all gun owners to report any stolen or lost firearms to the police within 72 hours.
The expanded background checks do not take effect until the first of next year.
