Regulations Established for Fracking

Story by WBGZ Radio
The people who want to do hydraulic fracturing in Illinois are closer to drilling. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has put the permit application process on its web site.  “The New Albany shelf is located in southeast Illinois,” said Mark Denzler, the vice president of the Illinois Manufacturers Association.

“We can’t get those (new) jobs moving until companies have the permits … so the fact that DNR has moved proactively, very quickly, to implement these, means we’re that much closer to the first drilling to occur in Illinois using high-volume hydraulic fracturing.”  Denzler co-chairs a business-labor coalition called Grow Illinois. The permits are expected to be issued starting next spring.
