Some of Republican Bruce Rauner’s ideas remind gubernatorial rival State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) of somebody. “I think it's ironic that Mr. Rauner uses Pat Quinn populism throughout his campaign to try to create gimmicks,” Dillard said. Rauner wants eight-year term limits for members of the General Assembly.
He is also suggesting the legislature reconfigure into a 41-member Senate and 123-member House. That would reduce the number of Senate seats by 18, but each Senate district would include three House seats, rather than the current two. Dillard called that plan “a slap in the face to Downstate Illinois.”
