The Santa Train will skip a visit to Godfrey again this year. Officially called the Holiday Express, the Kansas City Southern Railroad rerouted its path over the last couple of years to include more stops in Texas and Louisiana. At one time, the train was making yearly stops in Godfrey.
Local organizer Keith Sherman says the announcement is especially dissappointing given the charity aspect it brought to the region. Money raised went to fund programs to help the local Salvation Army to provide warm clothing and other necessities for children in need.
The Holiday Express will get as close as St. Louis, skip Godfrey, and make another stop in Roodhouse.
