Next Monday is Veterans Day and local veterans organizations in Alton will hold various tributes to honor the men and women who serve our country. Among those tributes will be the "Avenue of Flags" that runs along Homer Adams Parkway by the Upper Alton Cemetery. This year, over 100 flags will line the roadway and the grounds at Alton VFW Post 1308.
Marine Corps Chaplain Bill Carroll says you can purchase a flag to honor a loved one for $49.50.
He says that it is one of the most breathtaking displays she has ever seen and that it runs from 6am until about 5pm on Veteran's Day. They are still looking for volunteers to help put up and take down the display. To have a flag placed along the "Avenue of Flags" or for more information, you can call Nancy Schwendeman at 463-0563.
