Duane Allen Averbeck, 61, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017.
He was born November 8, 1955, in Wood River, Illinois, to Clarence “Tiny” and Viola (Brammeier) Averbeck.
He married Therese Harang on November 8, 1985, in Edwardsville. She survives.
Duane had been a crane operator for Laclede steel for 25 years and currently worked for Sid Boedecker Safety Shoes. He was a member of the Piasa Gun Club and the Sportsmens Club for 15 years. Duane was a family man, animal lover, and also enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Duane is survived by two children, Ashley Averbeck of Alton, Allen “AJ” Averbeck of Alton; one brother and his spouse, Paul and Connie Averbeck of Godfrey; two aunts, Beulah Schaffer, Erna Branson; mother and father in law, Ron and Edna Harang; brothers and sisters in law, David Harang, Mike and Virginia Harang, Pat and Chrissy Harang, Kathy and Rob Beard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Averbeck; and sister, Carolyn Averbeck.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2017, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Fr. Tom Liebler officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
