Antonio Vatole

Antonio Vatole, age 92, of Alton, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Integrity of Wood River.

He was born on September 30, 1924 in Alton the son of the late Leo and Lelia (Meisenheimer) Vatole.

Antonio married Carolyn Cleeton on March 23, 1944 she preceded him in death on December 1, 1982. He then married Mary Randolf on July 14, 1984 and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2017.

He worked as a mechanic at Shell Oil Co. for 35 years. Antonio served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. Antonio was a lifetime member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, he loved camping and fishing. He loved all animals.

He is survived by six children and their spouses; Dolores (Bob) Smith of Elsah, Anthony “TJ” (Nancy) Vatole of Brighton, Ed (Cindy) Vatole of Wood River, Terry (Vivian) of Alton, Tina Vatole of Wood River, Lonnie (Beverly) of Godfrey; 13 grandchildren, Paul, Kary, Jim, Mike, Matt, Ed Junior, JR, Lena, Carolyn, Jenny, Kristian, Christopher, Kyle; 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River with Fr. Donald Wolford as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery with military rites provided by the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church or 5 A’s Animal Shelter.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
