William John “Shorty” Narup

William John “Shorty” Narup, 84, died Monday, August 7, 2017 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born July 17, 1933 on the family farm in Godfrey, he was the son of Helen (James) Kingsbury and Carl Narup. Mr. Narup graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1955 and sailed on the USS Kearsarge. He retired as a machinist from the Olin Corporation. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Owl’s Club in Alton, the Eagles Lodge FOE #254 and was a die hard St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family relaxing on his front porch. On July 31, 1965 he married the former Vicky Leah Tuetken in Alton. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2002. Surviving are two daughters, Julie Anne Narup of Denver, CO, and Alyssa Nicole Narup of Alton, three sons, Chris Narup (Jennifer) of Geneseo, IL, Jeffrey Narup of Godfrey, and Scott Narup of Godfrey, and two grandchildren, Jacob and Anna. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Father Jason Stone will officiate.
