OBITUARIES

Novella Joanne Brockman

Novella Joanne Brockman passed away at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.

The second oldest of seven children of Henry and Anna (Smola) Ukena, she worked on the family farm during the Great Depression. She worked at Wells-Schmidt Tires during high school and then joined the U.S. Navy serving from 1941-1944. Later she worked as an office manager for Dr. Rudolph Beer’s medical office for 15 years, retiring in 1982. She was a longtime member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the Daughters of Isabella.

Novella married Walter J. Brockman Nov. 10, 1951 in Bethalto. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Jana (Steve) Laux of Swansea, IL; a son, Dana (Linda) Brockman of Wood River; 8 grandchildren, Autumn, Leif, Megan, Jonathan, Erika, Chelsea, Derek and Melissa; five great grandchildren, Allie, Aiden, Cooper, Willow and Faye; one brother, Kenneth Ukena; and one sister, Loretta Carmody.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Thomas Brockman; two sisters, Evelyn Tague and Coletta Dalton; and two brothers, Vernon and Virgil Ukena.

Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 at Paynic Home for Funerals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Donald Wolford at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors.
