Gene Carroll Wallace

GRAFTON - Gene Carroll Wallace, 86, died at 1:00 a.m., Monday, January 8, 2018 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

He was born in Alton, Illinois on August 6, 1931, the second of three sons born to Ross and Margaret (Carr) Wallace.
Gene grew up in Grafton and was a member of the Catholic faith. He was a graduate of Grafton High School, and was employed at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton for many years as an Assistant Site Superintendent, retiring in 1997, after many years of dedicated service.
He married the former Barbara "Babs" Stanton on Feb. 18, 1950 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and together they were the proud parents of seven children, who blessed them with many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. The two shared 53 years together prior to her death on Dec. 19, 2003.
Surviving are his fiance', Patricia Dudley of Grafton; his seven children and their spouses, Jacque Scroggins of Alton, Ross and Carolyn Wallace of Valrico, Fl., Sandi and Mike Flowers of Grafton, Laura Lester of Grafton, Elizabeth "Beth" Mundy of Jerseyville, Kevin and Cheryl Wallace of Alton and Kenneth G. Wallace of Jerseyville; 18 Grandchildren; 25 Great Grandchildren; two great great granddaughters; and two brothers, Robert Wallace of Godfrey and Daniel Ross Wallace of Grafton.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons in-law, Gregory Mundy on Feb. 1, 2015 and Edward Lester on Nov. 1, 2017; and two grandsons, Phillip Lester on Nov 20, 2002 and Daniel Coombs on Oct. 15, 2017.
A Memorial Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and continue until of memorial services at 11 a.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The ceremonies will be officiated by family friend, Eddie Calvin.
Family and Friends are encouraged to join the family at the Grafton American Legion immediately following the services for a time of food, stories and celebration.
A private burial will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
