Lawrence L. Melcher, 94, went home to be with the Lord at 1:20 pm Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Alton Rehab & Nursing in Alton.
He was born on June 26, 1918 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Fred & Mary (Pautler) Melcher.
He married Louise C. (Baise) in St. Charles, MO, May of 1933. She passed away on July 26, 1999.
Larry was employed as a switchman for the Manufactures Rail Road for 40 years retiring in 1978. He served his country in the United States Navy and was of the Catholic faith. He loved riding motorcycles, still riding in his 80’s and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Fred Melcher of Bethalto and Steve & Debbie Melcher of O’Fallon, MO; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele & Rick Hoggatt of Cottage Hills; five grandchildren, Kenneth Melcher, Tracy & (Craig) Biancalana, Jenefer Hoggatt, Tara Kissell, Kallie O’Brien and Alexus Schleicher; nine great grandchildren, Kenny, Jacob, Maranda, Ericka, Carter, Ben, Ryder, Aidyn and Caden and one sister, Naomi Pasquin of Cortez CO.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Elvis W. Melcher.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the funeral home with Father Tom Liebler officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto
