Paul Willis Long, 85, died at 2:37 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care in Jerseyville.
Paul was born in Calhoun County on March 12, 1927, and was the son of the late Spencer V. & Minnie (Blackorby) Long.
A graduate of Hardin High School, Paul served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he became engaged in farming on the Helen Beach Farm and later was a self employed carpenter working until 2000 where he suffered a stroke.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and was former member and deacon at the Bethany Baptist Church in Jerseyville.
He is survived by his five children & their spouses, Wanda & James Vahle of Jerseyville, Donna & Robert Daniels of Jerseyville, Robert & Kelly Long of Jerseyville, Rita Miller and her companion, Richard Daniels of Jerseyville, and Paula & Steven Howard of Chatham; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Fugate of Dow, Joyce Bland of Kampsville, Lois Charlton of Mozier; three brothers, Spencer Long of Jerseyville, Herbert Long of Winchester and Howard Wayne Long of Hardin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward Long, and a sister, Bernita H. Dunham.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday. Rev. Chuck Keene will officiate.
Burial will be in the Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg with Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.
Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ.
