Betty I. Blankenship, 88, a longtime resident of the United Methodist Village in Godfrey, IL, went home to be with her Lord & Savior Mon. Feb. 10, 2014 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehab in Jerseyville, IL surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born Feb. 26, 1925 in Beardstown, IL to the late George Kenneth & Blanche E. (Hocking) Wood.
Betty had been a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital and a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
On May 1, 1948, she and Donald E. Blankenship were married in East Alton, IL. He preceded her in death Dec. 18, 2007.
She is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Don & Donna Blankenship of Wanda, IL, 2 daughters & a son-in-law, Denise & Mike Verbais of Godfrey and Debbie Keymon of Alton, IL 3 grandchildren, Chad & Sarah Verbais of Edwardsville, IL, Daron & Joan Verbais of Godfrey and Andrew Blankenship & his fiancée, Jessica Tucker of Wood River, IL and 8 great-grandchildren, Tyler Verbais of Salem, Oregon, Vincent, Davis, Scott, Knox & Cecilia of Edwardsville and Mary and Tom Verbais of Godfrey.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Marshall & Jacque Wood.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services at 1:30 p.m. Tues. Feb 18, 2014 at Paynic Home for Funerals with Fr. Stephen Pohlman officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
