Pirates Beat Cards in Marathon

Pedro Alvarez hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the 19th inning as the Pirates defeated the Cardinals, 6-3 on Sunday at Busch Stadium.  Barret Browning (1-3) suffered the loss for the Redbirds.  Jaime Garcia returned from the disabled list and struck out 10 with no walks over 8 innings.  He had been out since June 5th

Both teams used 8 pitchers in the game which took 6-hours and 7-minutes to complete.

After playing 19 innings yesterday, the Cards are off today.  They continue their homestand tomorrow night against the Houston Astros.
