The fourth week of the prep football season delivered mixed results for our teams here in the Riverbend. Game one of our doubleheader here on Z-1570 featured the Civic Memorial Eagles, who played host to the Jerseyville Panthers in their Mississippi Valley Conference opener. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead but then the Panthers scored 41 unanswered points as senior quarterback Mitch Kimble put on a show.
Kimble Punches It In
Kimble racked up 144 yards on 20 attempts with a pair of scores on the ground. He was also productive through the air, completing 17 of 21 attempts for 191 yards with a touchdown. C.M. added a touchdown late in the fourth, but the Panthers still won the game handily, the final at Hauser Field was 41-14 in favor of Jerseyville. The Eagles fall to 1-3 on the season. They will look to bounce back next week on the road against Mascoutah.
The second game of the evening took us to Shell country where Roxana was blown out at home by the Vandalia Vandals in South Central Conference action. Vandalia led 13-0 after the opening quarter but the Shells finally got on the board early in the second frame, making the score 13-7. That's as close as it would get for Roxana though as the Vandals would really turn it on from there with multiple touchdown runs of more than 50 yards from senior quarterback Tim Ritchey.
Ritchey Breaks The Big One
Vandalia finished the game nearly 450 yards on the ground as they won the game going away, the final in Roxana was 39-7.
The shells fall to 1-3 with the loss. They will look to bounce back next week on the road against
