As expected, Illinois Senate appointee Roland Burris was prevented from being sworn-in. Burris' certificate of appointment was rejected by the Secretary of the Senate. In a brief statement, Burris said he'll turn the matter over to his lawyers. Senate Democrats have said they won't seat Burris because he was appointed by embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Federal prosecutors will have an extra 90-days to formally indict Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on corruption charges. Blagojevich was arrested on December 9th and accused in a criminal complaint of a massive conspiracy that included selling President-elect Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat. [Full Story]

IDOT Bridge Barrier Comments  This News Story Contains Audio

Following a series of crossover accidents on area bridges, State Representative Ron Stephens of Highland plans to introduce legislation that will eventually reduce the instances of crossover accidents on the bridges. Almost 20 people have died on the MLK and McKinley Bridges since 1998, and almost all are attributed to crossover crashes on the narrow bridges. The McKinley Bridge was closed for repairs during six of those years.[Full Story]
